Bricks and Mortar: Introduction to Digital Photography
Got a
new digital camera? Like many of us, you’ve got your new zillion-mega-pixel
toy, and you have been gleefully sending e-mail's containing 10MB of photos
to grandma. Unfortunately, grandma’s email is probably reaching maximum
capacity and causing the poor girl a lot of trouble. Instead, upload your
images to an on-line storage service such as
ophoto.com. Send grandma the link to your on-line photo album, and she
can download them at her leisure.
Or you
might prefer to print out your pictures.
While there are many high-quality photo-printers available, they are
expensive to operate. Take you digital images to a local developer
and get real prints made. We checked the big local chain
stores, and both Meijer and Wal Mart offer do-it-yourself digital print
services. Simply slide your camera’s memory card (or floppy or CD) into
their computer, and select the photos you want printed. Simple image
editing software is provided. At both stores, the staff is knowledgeable
and ready to help.
Meijer
prints the images with a laser printer, and the images are crisp and
vibrant. Wal Mart has a new system that prints digital images directly upon
the same Fuji printer that is used for film photos. Prints cost as little
as $.29 each, and since you only print the images you want, you may save
money in the long run.
If you’d
like a poster-sized print of your favorite digital image, Edwards Sign and
Screen Printing (1585 S. M-52, Owosso) can create large, high-resolution
posters and signs. Give Doug Edwards a call at 725-2988.
