Starting a Business---April 8, 2013 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
"Venture Start" is a series of workshops that provide introductory overviews of topics that are key to starting a business. "Starting a Business" is the first course in the series, designed for individuals who are considering self-employment, or who may be at the beginning stages of starting a business. Delivered in a workshop format, this introductory session helps aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services. Cottage Industry Law---Home Kitchens --- April 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.
If you plan to prepare and sell food products produced in your home kitchen at area Farmers Markets, craft shows, or roadside stands, then your business is covered under the Michigan Department of Agriculture Cottage Food Law. The law includes the kinds of products that can be sold, as well as safety in food preparation, packaging, and labeling which are all topics covered in this essential training. Especially for vendors, and also valuable for market managers, and trade/craft show organizers. The Shiawassee County Health Department joins the Shiawassee County SBTDC in offering this seminar at Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce, 215 N. Water Street in Owosso.  Presenter:  Trevor Older, Sanitarian.  Fee:  $10 per person.  Pre-register by Monday, April 15.


Health Care Reform and Small Business Owners---April 25, 2013 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
The new health care reform law will impact small business owners.  It’s time now to begin learning and planning for the 2014 impact.  This seminar is directed to small business owners who have less than 50 full time equivalent employees.  Gain an understanding of the Affordable Care Act, health insurance exchanges, and your options/requirements as a small business owner.  Seminar location:  Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce, 215 N.
