The Strategic Charge

of the Government Affairs Committee  2006

Mission Statement: To study and analyze issues of interest to the businesses in the Shiawassee Region; to take advocacy positions on those issues; and to communicate the Chamber’s viewpoint clearly to our membership, elected officials, and the community at large.

Strategic Charge: The Government Affairs Committee seeks to inform and educate Chamber membership about local and state legislative issues important to the business community, and then to take action to influence legislation on behalf of Chamber members’ interests.  Committee meets regularly the 2^nd Monday of every other month, and as needed to address pop up issues.

Summary of Goals in 2006: The Chamber Government Affairs Committee will educate members and influence elected officials with a legislative agenda focused on improving the business climate in Shiawassee County focused on the following policy issues:

1. Water availability

2. Job growth and business recruitment

3. Transportation

4. Growth management, planning and zoning

5. Healthcare

6. Communications and technology infrastructure

7. Intergovernmental agreements

8. Education

9. Agricultural advancement

10. Government Affairs
